Appreciating Arabic

Appreciating Arabic taught by Anna Doherty was a fun workshop in the Festival of Words. In this workshop, we got to learn about the Arabic language. You learn the Arabic alphabet, as well as how to pronounce each letter in it, and how each letter has different forms. You also learn phrases and sayings, and you get to practice writing Arabic on a postcard that you can give to your parents. We learned how to say mother, father, dearest, happy holidays, good morning, and how to write our name. A 7th grader who wished to remain anonymous who was in this workshop, says “the teacher was good, and it’s fascinating to learn a language that is so much different than English.” Overall, Appreciating Arabic was a fun and interesting workshop where we learned the basics of a very foreign language.
