This trimester a brand new enrichment blew onto the stage! Mr. Havey, the fourth grade science teacher, created this coding mania, and most people are enjoying what they got.  When asked “Why did you start this enrichment?’ Mr. Havey replied,

“The benefits of coding should be available to all students”

The trimester before, Mr. Havey created the Pixar in a Box enrichment, In Pixar in a box enrichment students could make their own stories and animations. Scratch is a very similar program to his first trimester enrichment, so we can expect more coding from the 4th grade teacher!

From all the positive comments, there was one that really stood out. One of Mr. Havey’s homeroom students, Griffin A., had a interesting viewpoint on the subject. He said “ The enrichment itself was fun, but also annoying.”

Griffin also said,”There are some glitches in the software” but he  could not specify what they were.

When one of our reporters walked around the room, it was noticed that some of the programs were not going as planned.

Hudson, a sixth grader in this enrichment, was asked if he was being taught how to avoid the glitches he was encountering. He answered with “no”. It seems that the enrichment is having the kids teach themselves how to code.

However they weren’t all negative comments. Fifth grader Derek S.said he picked this enrichment because he thought it would be fun, and he wasn’t disappointed. He also was enjoying the enrichment, as he said he thought it is also was amazing that he was able to share the programs he made with friends, and Scratch even has a page where creators can share work online.

The emotions of the enrichment were somewhat varied, but the majority of the opinions were positive. This enrichment seems to bea success for Mr. Havey, so the possibility of even better enrichments in the future are sky high!
