The KNSA enrichment went on a studio tour to KPIX5 during all day enrichment last week. That is a studio is in San Francisco, and you may know the studio from channel 5 news. They took Bart and Caltrain to get to San Francisco. KNSA got to meet Michelle Griego and Kenny Choi, two of the few anchors (reporters) at KPIX5. The enrichment got to watch the anchors do a studio rehearsal and watch them do a live broadcast of the show from the recording studio itself.
“It was a great honor to go to KPIX and have a great learning experience.” said Max, an 8th grader. Michelle was leading the enrichment for the tour when they were outside the filming studio, but inside, she was answering questions and going live to San Francisco.
KNSA got to see how the studio records and edits shows, using robotic cameras, greenscreen technology, and wireless microphones. The meteorologist who is on the show has a variety of live cameras to choose from, hidden under their reporting desk, when talking about the weather. For example, if they wants to show the Bay Bridge, they can just push a button that puts a live Bay bridge camera feed on the screen. From producers to script writers, everyone in the building is a part of the show, whether you see them on air or they are behind the scenes, editing video footage.
