New 8th Grade Teacher Comes to Us From the Philippines.

“Though English may not be Ms. Vivian’s first language, she uses a lot of examples so students will understand her,” says Piper in 8th grade.

Ms. Vivian is the new 8th grade math teacher at North Star. She just came from the Philippines where she worked for 16 years. She is very smart and likes math.

“I heard NSA is a top performing school and all the students are gifted in math and well behaved,” says Ms. Vivian. She added that she came from a bigger school with many more students and is eager to teach at NSA.

Mr. Havey said she is a good addition to our staff.  “We wanted to increase the diversity of our staff,” he added.

All of the 8th grade teachers agree that she is easy to work with. “She shares ideas but it is a take it or leave it situation,” says Mr. Flint.

Ms. Vivian works in the McKinley building in room 109.  So far, her coworkers seem to think positively about her.

“She is sweet with a side of humor,” said  Ms. Baltay.

She also runs Math Zero which is open before school to help students with math.

“I started Math Zero to help students, especially those who were struggling in math to give them support and assist them with their homework,” says Ms. Vivian.

Ms. Vivian has worked at another school before in the Philippines. “In the Philippines I worked at Maliwalo National School and handled about 4,000 students in math,” quotes Ms. Vivian.

She uses fun, interesting games to teach her students about math. “Instead of boring lessons she sometimes does math games,” says Henry in 8th grade.

Many 8th grade students and teachers say she is a sweet teacher who explains well. “She is great at explaining and teaching if you are having trouble,” says Lucas in 8th grade.

Most people agree, Ms. Vivian is a kind, helpful teacher who will make sure you completely understand 8th grade math.
