Mr. Slater’s Busy Substitute Experience

Mr. Slater’s Busy Substitute Experience

Mr. Slater, a substitute for Mrs. Suresh, recently came on October 4th, 2023.  He will be leaving us in February 2024. He is taking on Ms. Suresh’s 7th and 8th grade science classes while she is home caring for her new baby.

Before he was a substitute teacher Mr. Slater used to teach American History, Elementary Math and Science. His favorite subject to teach is World History.

“I like this school because I have met some very nice teachers and hardworking and friendly students.” Mr. Slater said

He is very busy during the day starting at 8 am cleaning and setting up the room for the class and ending at around 3 pm. In his free time he plays sports like Golf, Softball and Bowling. His favorite part about softball is hitting home runs.

Other hobbies that Mr. Slater enjoys are reading or going to the movies. During lunch or recess he eats lunch and patrols the field for other kids’ safety Along with being a substitute here in North Star Academy, he has been a sub to other schools like Laurel Elementary in San Mateo for K-5th grade, and Palo Alto High School in Palo Alto for 9-12 grade. He teaches three classes of 8th grade science

Kaia A., a 4th grader said, “I have a feeling that he’ll be a great teacher for all the seventh graders.”

Since he is often out on the schoolyard, 7th grader, Catherine M., said “If you go outside, in public you might see him.”

Hopefully his stint in Ms. Suresh’s class won’t be the last time we see him at North Star.
