Many teachers across the school hear slang daily. Some think it can disrupt their teaching and has no meaning, while others believe that it is a funny moment the students share among themselves. Here are some more thoughts teachers have about slang.
Teachers assume that slang is a way to relate with other peers that separates them from the adults.
“I see it as an open inside joke that all students share together. As a math teacher, I hear 67 a lot. All the kids seem to know what it means and can connect through that,” Ms. Klingele states.
Although these words are seen as a joke, most do not make sense. Some can be used as a way to call a person in a positive or negative way, but lots are just nonsensical phrases that many people find annoying but some people find hilarious and helpful.
“When people yell out random slang at the wrong times, it can be super annoying.” 8th grader Ellie remarked. Although the use of slang may be disruptive, most scholars have been responsible about using slang only at times where it is appropriate (not during a test or quiet moment).
As we know, students like slang because it separates them from adults. Because of this, many adults do not understand all slang. But adults saying the slang can encourage kids to stop saying them.
“I get pookie and twin, like ways to call your bestie, but I am not aware of the meaning of all the numbers,” says Ms. Tickel. “I’m not really too sure if it is meaningful, though.” Some people also think that the numbers like 67 and 41 are just random numbers from a useless meme.
Numerous scholars and teachers have a favorite slang word or one they use most often. Ms. Tickel especially likes the word “slay” because it is positive and slay.
“67 is my favorite.” Wesley, an 8th grade scholar, shared and many other students agree. We also think 67 is one of the most used slang words by many students right now.
Overall, teachers and students can enjoy slang. Though it is annoying at times if used wrong, slang words can cause funny moments for the whole class to share. It can even be helpful and encouraging at times. However, slang words are sometimes better if not overused.

This is very good information, I agree that the meme 67 and 41 is funny at times but sometimes it gets out of hand. I think this is a great article, I think all of you should read it.
