Have you ever wondered how teachers know what you’re doing on your chromebook without you telling them? The truth is, the district installed an application called Go Guardian to watch what scholars are doing on their chromebooks. We interviewed multiple students, and various opinions have been revealed.
5th grader Griffin has shown a negative remark on this, “It invades the privacy of scholars,” he voiced. Many other scholars agreed, however, mixed opinions were stated. 3rd grader Maysan gave a positive remark. “It lets teachers know what students are working on, so they’re not on certain websites or messing around!”
Some people admire Go Guardian but others dislike this website. A few scholars even wonder if it can hear your private conversations. 5th grader Ella shared her opinion on the topic. “Go Guardian shouldn’t be able to hear our conversations”, if it’s true, it would be breaking through a lot of people’s boundaries. Additionally, 7th grader Axel commented, “They should remove it, it’s practically snooping through our private information.”
Ms. D expressed her beliefs. “Whenever scholars do anything inappropriate that shows they’re being harmed, I get a notification. This is wasting their learning time and a misuse of my time.” Furthermore, she spoke out, “Nobody should be on these sites, it’s a waste of time to take them out of the classroom to talk to them.”
Although students think that Go Guardian is exploiting their privacy, others believe it is used for good. The administrators do not intend this platform to spy on students. Overall, it has gotten many mixed opinions.
