At Outdoor Ed there are many engaging fun activities and occasions such as the Earth dance, beach day, the night hike, ocean odyssey, big trees day, and garden day.
First on the list is the night hike. On the night hike you walk a trail through part of the forest that leads to a dirt opening. Here, you sit down on the dirt while your naturalist lights a candle called The Courage Candle. Your group then passes around the candle and everyone says a time when they felt courageous. You do this to get ready for the solo walk. You also get to lay down and look at the stars. After that, you do the solo hike. Your naturalist will walk down a very dark path to a certain spot. Then, you will follow after around 30 seconds. Once everyone is done, you walk back to the cabins on the trail and finish your night hike. This is the night hike activity at Outdoor Ed.
Another night activity they have at Outdoor Ed is called the Earth dance. This activity is where you dance and learn where on Earth each dance comes from and then dance to it. You learn different dances from all over the world. You also get to do a freeze dance to finish up the night.
Another activity is ocean odyssey, where you get to participate in skits, songs, and even get to look at some shells and barnacles that were found at the beach. You also learn things about the beach before

you go. They show you which beaches you will be going to like the pebble beach, marshes, tide pools, and sandy shore.
Then, beach day, the fan favorite. First you get to go see the river that leads into the ocean as well as the sandy shore. Then you go to chocolate milk island, which is where you get to go drink chocolate
milk that the naturalists bring. Next, you have lunch and get to try beach day soup, which includes carrots and broccoli, but if you don’t like soup then you can also enjoy a delectable peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Additionally, over the course of the whole week you practice and make up a little skit that you perform on Thursday night, the last night. After that, your naturalist gives you cookies as a treat. Then you get to go to pebble beach a
nd take a pebble shower, pebble bath, or really anything pebble related. Lastly you get to go to the tide pools to find crabs, hermit crabs, starfish, sea urchins and almost anything you can imagine! You can pick up some animals like crabs and starfish too.
Another activity is big trees day. On a hike that takes approximately half of the day, you get to see amazing Redwood trees such as Dead Fred, an old burned out tree, and Big Red, a huge redwood tree. Then they will explain an amazing backstory about how the trees got their names and how they look. For the other
half of the day you get to go to the Nature Lab, where they have different animal artifacts like…. You also
will get to take an animal, add some extra adaptations to it, then draw it in a workbook.
After that we have t
he night skits, where you perform with your cabin. These happen Thursday night at the big campfire. You get to watch your friends and other cabins, and some of the naturalists even have a skit to present! People really enjoy this experience because you are in the coziness of the warm fire and it has a really nice vibe to it.
Lastly, garden day. For one half of the day you go to the garden and work different stations. You get to preserve apples, fertilize trees, and learn about compost while observing plants. You will learn about different plants and do a garden scavenger hunt. For the other half of the day, your naturalists will take you on a secret hike. You get to pass a dried out river and hike on a small tree, probably seeing lots of banana slugs on the way. Then you will get to make observations and create a chart.
To sum up the points we have discussed, Outdoor Ed has many exciting and wonderful activities to do morning, day, and night. They have it all! So, if you are in 3rd or 4th grade, think about signing up for Outdoor Ed today!
