The school soccer season has started for the 3-5 graders but so much has already happened. There is one boys team and two girls teams. The girls blue team is coached by Carlos Escobar and the girls white team is coached by Carlos Gomez. The girls blue team played Clifford on 3/19/24 they tied 3-3 but the girls white team beat Adelante Selby 6-0. The boys 4th-5th grade team is coached by our own Mr. Carranza. They played Garfield and lost 8-2.
Riley.C ,who is in 5th gr
ade, said he joined the team because of how his friend said it was fun last year. He also said he loves the practices and the games so far. Riley plays AYSO Select which lots of other kids on the school team attend.
On 3/26 the girls blue team played Orion and lost 6-5 and the white team played Clifford and tied 2-2. The boys team played Hoover and lost 4-1. The girls coach, Carlos Gomez, left for a 2 week vacation out of the country. He notified coach Carlos Escobar two hours before their Thursday practice started. So the parents have to step in. Jen Givens and Jitpal Sahai who were coaches last year, offered to sub as a coach until he comes back.
Hailey G. 5th grade quit soccer last year but joined the team and said that she is really enjoying it. Last year the girls white team got 4th place while the girls blue team got 6th place.
On 4/18/24 Coach Gomez quit coaching for personal reasons. So for the rest of the season, parents will take turns coaching the white team.
