Students have mixed opinions about NSA’s summer length and our school year length. Some people think both are the perfect length while some people think summer is way too short, while others think that the school year should be longer.
Many students expressed that they wanted a longer summer. “I think that instead of 2 and a half months we should at least round it up to 3” says Maddie, a 5th grader.
Others even think that it should be extended longer. “I think that our summer is WAY too short,” says 5th grader, Ella “I think it should be more like 5 or 6 months.”
However, some students are content with the length of the school year. “I think summer is the perfect length,” said 5th grader Katherine.
Although some students would really like a longer summer, many students enjoy the days off and short days that we have. “I want a longer summer but I wouldn’t be willing to sacrifice our days off,” says 5th grader Ella. Although some people said they would be willing to sacrifice it, some students think that we have too many days off and that the minimum days are stupid and unnecessary even though many students enjoy it.
Even if kids are happy with the length of summer, they have other issues with school days and breaks.“The last day should at least be a Friday” says 8th grader Austen.
“I think our school days are a good length,” adds Siena, a 5th grader, “but they should start at 7:30 and end at 2:00.” This is because she thinks many kids would like more time after school to play games or do sports.
“I think school is the perfect length,” says Rosha, a 5th grader.
“I definitely don’t think we have too many days off,” said a girl named Gigi who is in 5th grade. Although for some kids parents may have trouble finding someone to watch or pick up the kids because of the random days off and short days.
Overall people have mixed opinions about the length of our school year, summer, and school day. Some people just don’t like school and want less school no matter what while some people enjoy school and being with their friends and think we have too many days off.
